Thc animals are gregarious, generally found adhcring in clusters by a strong byssus. This shcll is not an aboriginal of Dritain, being a native of the Volga, thc Danube, and other continental rivers, and has been introduccd upon timbcr; but is now so gencrally diffused throughout Dritain, that it may fairly be considcred as a British shel\.
