Dia111eler a quarler of an inch. This species is pretly generally spread over Great I3ritain. It is found in \Viltshire, De1•011shire, Lincolnshire, Cornwall, Dorsetshire, ami Nortlm1111Jerland; an<l is plcntiful among nel- tlc~ in the King's Park, al Edindurgh. In Ireland, I met with il al Naas, County of Kildare, ami near Downpatrick; Mr. W. I l. Harvey found it abciul Limerick ancl Ilallitore; ami lVIr. This specics differs from H. hiSJ)icla, in being thinncr and more globular in form, aud in thc umbilicus being smaller. It will be known from the }f. gnmulata, by being wrinkle<l, m- stead of having granulatious. Inhabits woody situations. l\fr. Alder, who firsl introduced this shcll on thc faith of Baron de Férussac, gil'es no locality for it. i\ir. Diameter a c¡uarler of an inch; its length bcing harclly so much. This species is always hairy, and very flal abo,·c, Cl"Cll in the youngesl conclition. Not uncommon in many parts of Great Britain, ami is wiclcly spreacl ovcr Ireland. It is found nncler stoncs, clecayccl lrecs, (caves, &c., both in dry ancl moist situations. ]\fr. Thompson mcnlions a wcll markecl rnriety, which he founcl in the North of Ircland, whcre it i,- the mo,t. common form.
