Thc small variety of this shcll, noticccl by Joshua Aldcr, Esq., of Ncwcastlc, has vcry fine conccntric strire on its base, which is only visible by thc aicl of a slrong lcns. This variety is only onc-lcnth of an inch in cliamctcr. fohabits woody ancl shadccl situations, under sloncs, on dc- caycd timbcr, and undcr lca\'es. Il'Iontagu mentions it as a Dcvonshire ancl \Viltshirc shc\l. It has also bcen founcl in the North of Englancl; and Thompson says it is gcncrally clis- tributcd ovcr Irelan<l, from thc sea shorc lo mountain localitics.
