Length a line; diameter not half its lcngth. This species has, in some fcw inslances, an cighth tooth situ- atcd on the pillar lip. Inhabits moist woody situations, . undcr slones. It is not a rarc, although a local specics in Dritain. l\Ir. Thompson, howe\'cr, says, it is 1·cry rare in Ireland, and has bcen mct with in the north-east and wcst of thc islancl. This is a ru1·e species, an<l is mcntioned by l\'Iontagu as obtainecl from the rcjcctamenta of the river Avon, Wiltshirc; J elfreys givcs its habi ta! in· the rejeclamenta of a small stream at Marino, near Swansea; ami Thompson oblaine<l il from Mr. \Y. H. Harvcy, who found it at Miltown l\falbay, lrelancl. In pointing out thc dilfercncc between this species an<l V. pusilla, Jelfrcys says, that !he back bcing more sunk in somc spccies than in others,-which charactcrises the growth of toothc<l lancl shclls,-is suffi cient proof that it is not the young of V. p11sillc1. Length a qnartcr of an inch. Inhabits close, shacled, woody situations, among 111oss, umler stoncs, an<l among decayecl lea\'cs, &c.
