Tubc bluish-whitc, smooth, glossy, diaphanous, adhering, sublriangular, slightly contorted; base sprcacling prctty widcly, tapering ralher abruptly to a fine point; back with an clcl'atccl, thin, sharp ridge, fincly but irregularly scrralecl, and cqual in dimcnsions to the brcadlh of the tube; apcrture largc, nearly orbicular, with the tooth-like tcrmination of the carina project- ing ovcr it. Discovcred by Dr. Fleming, in deep water, adhering to stone~, on the coast of Zctland ; ancl I found it plcntiful in Rothcsay Bay, in company with my fricnd James Smith, Esq., of Jorclan Hill, near Glasgow, whilc on a dredging cxcursion. The shell is so transparent, that the animal can be distinctly scen through it; ancl by the aicl of a strong lens the pulsation may be obscrrec\. GENUS 2.-Srmonms.-Lamarck. Shell consistin" of a testaceous tube, spirally twisted into an orbicular form 0 ~ a horizontal plane, depressed, and aclhering below; the aperture terminal, rounded, or angular• I. Shell subdepressed, subpellucid, glossy, whilc; with two or threc subcylindrical, slightly wrinklecl, somcwhat lateral volu- tions; central volution lower than thc others, forming an um- bilicus, and pcrvious in some instances; aperlure subtriangular, and not unfrequcntly turned upwarcls; attached by thc smaller end. Nautiloidcs by its glossy aspee!, its more cylindrical form, and not spreacling at thc base. Gcnerally founcl adhering to marine plants, corallincs, and Crustacea, ancl not to stones. 3. Shell subdepressed, white, opaque; with two volutions, dceply grooved spirally, and transvcrsely wrinkl?d, mor~ strongly so in the furrows, umbilicated; aperture orb1cular, w1th an annular tip. Diamcter an eighth of an inch.
