100 MOLLUSCA. [CoNCHACEA, small primary tooth in each valve, and also two lateral teeth in both valves; sinus slightly heart-shaped at its superior extre- mity ¡ colour pale ycllowish-whitc. At first I was disposed to considcr this the young of A. crassa, but its want of a sinus, more regularly ovate form, thc shapc of the pallial sinus, and large bifid tooth, induced me to givc it a ncw spccific namc. This shcll was found at Newbigging, Northumberlancl, by Waltcr Calvcrly Trevelyan, Esq., and is in the splendid cabinet at Wallington, Northumberlancl. GBNUS 24.- TELL!NA,-Linn:cus. Shell compressed, transverse, subcqui1·alvc, inequilateral¡ pos- terior side usually roundcd; thc anterior somcwhat producccl, or beaked and angular; anterior ventral margin with an irregular flexuosity; gencrally with two cardinal teeth in cach valve, but only one in somc instances; usually lwo lateral tecth in both valvcs, but sometirnes only one, ami for the most part remole from the prirnaries; two distant muscular impressions; pallial impression with a very large sinns; ligament externa!. l. Found on the Dorselshire coast, Portlaml, and at Guernsey; and my late friend Sir Patrick Walker found it on the shore at Leith. We mct with dcnd shells with the valves unitecl, by clrcdging, off Holy Island. Thcsc are in the cabinet of Lady Jardinc. It may, howevcr, be considerecl as a very raro Ilritish shell. 3. Shcll subtriangularly subovate, thin, subpellucicl; glossy, of a rosy or white-colour, clarker towards the umboncs, which are a littlc procluced, placed nearly central, ancl slightly inllectecl; surface with numerous, ,·ery fine, concentric stri:c ; and by the aid of a strong lens, ncarly obsolete, exceeclingly minute, longi- tudinal streaks or stri::c are observable ; one side narrow, some- what beakecl, and obliquely subtruncated; the other beautifully rounclccl; cartilage slope with a slight indentation; insidc rosy, particularly towards the umbonal region, and bccoming paler towarcls the margins; hinge with two remole, strong, lnminated teeth. Found on the beach at P ortlancl ancl \Vcymouth. Extremely rare. 4. TELLINA LINEATA, pi. XL, f. 17. Tellina lineata, First Ecl., pi. 16, f. 17; Turtou, Conch. Shell semitrausparent, lransversely oblong-ovate, slightly pro- cluced at one sidc, ancl rounclecl at the other; umbones small, nol quite central, ancl very slightly, if at ali, reflccted; surface pale cream-white, with a pale red longitudinal stripe running close to the side in each valve; with numerous, fine, very close, regular, concenlric striro, which are strongest towarcls the sicles; hinge with two cardinal teeth, one of them enti re ami the other clcft, ami a lateral, laminar one on each side, in onc valre, ami a single, bifid, primary looth in t hc other.
