I laid Gold and bright Copper into Grouod, and made as if I fownd it there, and ed tC\ and fro on the Earth as if I looked for ch things ; they looked one on another and ke to each od1er fome words, but I could not ceive that they underfiood me,or whar I meant; tbat they knew Gold , or any other Metal ; ywould gladly have had cvery thing rhey faw; y tried to break the Boats Iron-grapencl with nes , and would have carricd it away·; I let malone, and obfervcd their aétions and be- viour, which was very brutifü: They catch'd every thing they could reach,althoughI caufed mto fitdown, an<l I put i1rings of Bcads about ir Necks; ftill thcy .de!ired more : My Lieu– nt Peckett danccd with thein hand in hand > feveral of my Men <lid dance with them, and eali the fhew of FricndJh::~ as was pofüblc; y Lieutenant changed his Coat for one oftheirs, thcy defired it becaufe it was red, which co. thcy much efieem.
