In particular, an excess of fugitive gas is generated duringmatte tapping, malle and cold dope eharging into the converter and converter slag and erude copper removal into the ladle. In case there is an inerease in such fugitive gases as matte eharge, the evacuation capacity can be enhanced by reducing the opening of the control damper attached to the hood of few fugitive gas generation. This operation is done by the fumace operators. The over-head crane driver can also change the opening of some control dampers attached to the local hoods or direct the adequate damper opening lo the fumace operators, because the over-head crane driver has the advantage ofbeing able to look down upon the whole smelting area. The collected fugitive gas is led lo the gas c1eaning plant by two large induced'fans with a total capacity of 300,000 Nm 3 /H. This gas is washed out to remove the dust and desulfurized with Mg(OH)2 slurry at two absorbing towers arranged in series. Finally, tbis by now quite dean gas is released to the air after the mist contained in this gas is eliminated by wet type E.S.P.
