This animal, which I have thought it necessary to assign to a new genus, appears to have for its nearest neighbours the genera Auricula and Pedipes. It was found on the wooden piles which sup- port the mole in the Bay of San Carlos, in Chiloe, below the wash of the high water. The mole stands out into the sea, and there is no fresh water near it, save a very little rill, which discharges its tiny stream more than fifty yards off. 43. This shell was found in the fresh- water ponds in the neighbour- hood of Cape Gregory, which is on the continental side of the eastern end of tlie Strait of Magalhaens.
