Because of processes of selection and oversights, there are noted artists that unjustly receive less recognition, such is the case of the mapuche master artisan Dominga Neculmán. Nevertheless, MAPA keeps an important collection of her ceramic works, done until 2022, the year of her death. Her rich production is an heir of the indigenous pottery of the center-south of the Chilean territory, a considerable sample of which is kept in the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales. On the other hand, the University has left its traces in the urban landscape: our Casa Central; the Escuela de Derecho; the student’s pool in the commune of Independencia; or the Palacio Matte. These are all university buildings raised as landmarks of the city of Santiago, all of which were declared national monuments. To what we have previously said, we must add the bulky production born out of our community’s permanent investigation and creation, by whose commitment we are recognized as an intellectual reserve of the country, oriented towards the attention of its problems and needs. In short, our heritage considers material and immaterial assets that transcend the walls of our archives, libraries and museums, configuring a dense network that threads together our history with the development of the city and the country.
