Proceedings of the 12th International INQUA meeting on paleoseismology, active tectonic and archaeoseismology

72 PATA Days 2024 field was triggered at large distance in the suburbs of Kanazawa city, ~80 km south of the rupture. It caused huge damage, at the morphological junction between the coastal dune slope and the saturated back-dune swamp (Figure 6). Finally, the 2024 Noto earthquake recorded a tsunami that inundated almost the entire NP coast, including the western one up to Shika. It was locally devastating: the Suzu coastline and its buildings were largely demolished by the waves. There, tsunami height reached 4 m. However, the maximum runup (6 meters) was recorded off the NP, around Naoetsu in the Niigata Prefecture (not shown on Figure 1) where it killed several people (Heidarzadeh et al., 2024). Fig. 7: Nearby Kaiso port, on the western coast, the tsunami runup is delineated by the abundant plastic waste reaching there the bridge. This must be noticed that the coast was uplifted (see the white print on beach rocks) before the wave arrival, and somehow probably prevented from worse damage.
