Neotectonic features – which have demonstrated activity in the current compressional crustal stress regime – largely follow a SSW-NNE trend and appear to be basement faults reactivated as predominately reverse faults (Rajabi et al., 2017). No paleoseismic studies have previously been undertaken to characterise the activity rates of faults in the region. Fig. 1: The study area location within the eastern highlands of Australia. Mapping in the Australian Neotectonics Features Database is largely based on 1:250k and 1:100k geological map sheets supplemented with interpretation of Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) elevation data. Interpretation of LiDAR DEMs undertaken in this study has produced high-resolution mapping of fault scarps (Figure 3) and identified several additional possible neotectonic features not previously mapped.
