A 50 años del inicio de la fonoaudiología en Chile: experiencias y desafíos actuales en salud pública

150 EXPERIENCES AND REFLECTIONS ON THE SPEECH-LANGUAGE THERAPY APPROACH IN SEVERELY BURNED PEOPLE Abstract The work with major burn patients is complex and requires a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach. Advances in medicine nowadays allow people to survive longer, but with greater sequelae. In the context of burn patients, it is possible to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of communication, swallowing and orofacial motor skills in the field of speech therapy. In the world, the practice of speech therapists in burns teams is about 30 years old, while in our country it is a practice that does not exceed 10 years. There is still a long way to go, particularly in the improvement of public health policy programs related to major burns. Through an experiential report, this chapter reviews the experiences and reflections on the speech therapy work with this population. Keywords: burns, communication, deglutition, myofunctional therapy, speech therapy.
