A 50 años del inicio de la fonoaudiología en Chile: experiencias y desafíos actuales en salud pública

124 LANGUAGE INTERVENTION TO DEAF PEOPLE: FROM THE CLINIC TO THE SOCIOCULTURAL PERSPECTIVE Abstract Speech and language therapists work with deaf and hard of hearing children in Chile has evolved from a mere clinic perspective to a variety of options given by the linguistic and cultural diversity of this group. The aim of this chapter is to describe the experiences among deaf children and their perspectives from different therapeutic approaches. The methodology is based on the experience systematization, which was divided into three sections: 1) Current evidence in the early access to language, 2) Sociocultural and clinical perspectives regarding interventions for language and cognition in Chile 3) Considerations regarding the technical work with deaf people. In conclusion, it is demonstrating common evidence in the field of the intervention and experiences around the integration of the perspectives in the technical work with deaf children and adolescents. The above might represent an attractive challenge at the present, but it will be a requirement in the future. Keywords: audiology, deaf persons, rehabilitation of speech and language disorders.
