A 50 años del inicio de la fonoaudiología en Chile: experiencias y desafíos actuales en salud pública

106 AFFIRMATIVE AND NON- PATHOLOGIZING VOICE CARE FOR TRANS AND/OR NONBINARY PEOPLE Abstract Since trans and nonbinary people are conceived as mentally ill, their fundamental rights have historically been violated in different areas and across their life course. On the other hand, those who work in the health care field, have received traditionally a cis-hetero-normed education, under a strong medicalizing and culturally competent approach, which has led to maintaining the pathologization on sex and gender experiences, especially in the trans and nonbinary community. In this context, it is urgent to count on professional education that allows working from affirmative and non-pathologizing health care models. One perspective that has contributed to this road is cultural humility. This chapter presents reflections on this topic based on the experiences lived in two academic meetings that used a webinar format. In the end, some ideas will be proposed on how to promote affirmative and non-pathologizing voice care environments. Keywords: cultural competence, cultural humility, LGBTQIA+, non binary people, trans people, voice care.
